Description: This layer is assembled procedurally from GeMS (NCGMP, 2020) geologic maps. The data in this layer mimics the structure and definitions provided by the GeMS data standard, with the exception that citation information (e.g., from a DataSources table), information from the original published descriptions of map units, information pertaining to national synthesis map units (e.g., Johnstone and others, 2020), standardized age information, and alternative polygon colors are joined onto the spatial data for ease of use here. The 'symbol' field is renamed 'fgdc_symbol' to make it explicit which cartographic standard is used for symbolization (USGS, 2006).
