Description: The USGS Energy Science Center assesses oil and gas resources through hundreds of geological provinces throughout the United States and the World. Within the United States, 71 provinces have been defined for onshore and State water areas. Over 200 world provinces have also been defined. Provinces are generally geologically defined, but at times may follow geographic or political boundaries. Within these provinces, Total Petroleum Systems are defined and Assessment Units are defined and assessed. This dataset includes provinces from assessments as early as 1995 through 2009. As new assessments are released, this layer will be updated.
