Information on Renewable Resources
The Energy Resources Program (ERP) investigates geological unconventional fuels such as gas hydrates, coalbed methane, oil shale, heavy oil and natural Bitumen, and tar sands. We do not study most renewable resources such as biomass power, hydropower, ocean power, solar power, and wind energy. However, we do study the renewable resource, Geothermal that is geologically based and the USGS has a long history in volcanic studies.
The following is useful information and links on Renewable Resources:
Renewable Energy
DOE's National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) is a leader in the U.S. Department of Energy's effort to secure an energy future for the nation that is environmentally and economically sustainable.
Renewable Resource Data Center (RReDC). The RReDC is supported by the National Center for Photovoltaics (NCPV) and managed by the Department of Energy's Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy. The RReDC provides information on several types of renewable energy resources in the United States, in the form of publications, data, and maps. An extensive dictionary of renewable energy related terms is also provided.
